Deciding to move to a new location for a job, to be closer to family, or any other reasons can be a big one. There are many expenses that come along with relocating your family. Here are five great tips that will help you save some of that green while relocating.
Use A Container
You have three main options when moving. You can package all the items yourself in a moving truck or your own vehicle. You can hire a moving company to package all of your items and move them. Or, you can opt for using a moving container. These containers are a low-cost option that allows you to pack and unpack at your own pace. Simply call up the container company and they’ll drop one off at your home. You load it fully over days or weeks, depending on your individual schedule. Then, you call them up to move it to your new home. It’s really simple.
Buy Bulk Packaging Materials
One of the most costly mistakes you can make when moving is buying packaging materials from a moving company. There are many discount stores that offer packaging supplies with bulk pricing discounts. You may even be able to get free boxes from local appliance stores if you ask.
Move During the Off-Time
The cost of moving is dependent on the demand for moving services. In the summer months, people are buying homes at a faster rate. This increases the demand for moving services and their price. To get the cheapest rates on these moving services, consider moving during the off-time. This is best described as in the winter months, the middle of the week, or in the middle of the month.
Use Junk Mail for Packaging Materials
Bubble wrap and packaging peanuts can cost an arm and a leg. This holds especially true when you’re buying them in bulk. Instead, you should stash up on all your junk mail. This includes things like newspapers, advertisement brochures, magazines, and so forth. These all make perfectly good packaging materials that you won’t have to pay for.
Get Rid of Unwanted Belongings
Relocating is a great time to take stock of what you have in your home. As you go through each room, packaging items, consider which ones are unwanted. Simply leave them out or store them all in one specific location. Each time you find items that you don’t want to keep, put them in that central location. Then, you can donate those items once you’ve gone through all your stuff.
The fewer items you take with you, the less you have to spend on moving costs. Saving money while you relocate can help to decrease the burden of stress that comes along with it. The above are just five really useful tips for lowering your moving costs. We’re sure the more tips you employ during your relocation, the more ways you’ll come up with to save money overall.
