CBD oil: A miracle or snake oil of the century?

I would bet that few of you even heard of CBD oil as few as four years ago. Today, probably 60% of those reading this heard of it, although there are a number of misconceptions about it.

Many people wrongly believe that CBD oil is a derivative of the marijuana plant. This is NOT true. CBD oil is derived from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the Marijuana plant.

The industry is currently a whopping 600 million dollar industry and is expected to increase an astounding… get this… forty times to 24 billion dollars! I have a friend who is currently making over 1 million a year selling it. In addition, it is a bit pricey, although not as pricey as marijuana, thus, it provides a huge markup. So why the huge increase in sales?

There have been many medical claims about it from alleviating pain, to helping with sleep to even curing diseases such as cancer. Moreover, studies have confirmed that it is safe. No wonder sales have skyrocketed. Thus, I decided to do some research. So, what’s the problem?

The problem is that there is NO SCIENTIFIC VALIDATION to any medical claim whatsoever. ZILCH! No studies show that CBD oil alleviates or cures anything other than a rare form of epilepsy. In fact, according to a paper issued by Harvard Medial School, “there is zero credible and convincing evidence to suggest that CBD is effective for serious conditions like treating cancer, or that routine use while well can prevent disease.”

Bottom line: Although it probably won’t hurt you and might even give you a bit of a “buzz,” don’t be misled into thinking that it will alleviate or cure any ailment other than psychosomatic ones. Just remember that CBD oil would be the product of choice for the snake oil salesmen of the 1800s. Think of it as today’s snake oil until some study confirms any medical benefit.
